Not much to report this month. I know a lot of us around here are trying to get their hay in, the month of July didn’t have very many summer days. Maybe August will finally bring us some summer weather.
Rain or shine we will be still holding our trap shoots. We have two novice trap shoots this month plus we still shoot trap every Friday night.
The dates aren’t set yet, but we will be holding another Hunters Safety Class sometime next month. Check next month’s newsletter for dates and times.
Thanks to all of our members for supporting the gun club, as this letter is sent out we have 463 members for 2011.
In July we closed the rifle and pistol range one afternoon on fairly short notice so that a local company could use the trap range. In the past we have let various companies and organizations the trap range or club but generally we’ve had enough lead time that we were able to get it in the newsletter. In the future we will make every effort to make sure we have enough time to get an event in the newsletter before it happens. Email saved the day this time, by informing most of our members about this event, but let’s make sure there is enough lead time before we approach one of our officers about using the club.
We did a lot of repair work on the rifle and pistol range during our work party, let’s take care of it. DO NOT SHOOT THE POSTS OR CROSSBRACES. Shoot only paper targets on the plywood backstops.
The gun club held our Summer "Meat" Shoot on Saturday, June 18, 2011. We had 23 shooter sign up to play in the games for a chance to win some good prizes to take home for dinner.
We had a tie for first place between Rod Harding and Berkley Tack who won three prizes each. We had a four way tie for second place with Gene Gardner, Ron Bates, Phil Britt, and Chris Saxton winning two prizes each. Coming in at third place with one prize apiece was Delynn Elrod, Butch Crawford, Rod Saddler, Rod Saddler Jr., Bryant Fitzgerald, and Jayson Fitzgerald.
Taking home a guaranteed prize for shooting in at least ten games were Arnie LaFever, Harvey Horn, Karl Graichen, Bill St. John, Mike Means, Joe Green, Austin White, Terry Kiggins, Tom Kaut, and Ted Wittren.
Thanks to everyone who came up to participate in this shoot, you made it a success. Our next big shoot will be our Fall "Meat" shoot coming in September.

The gun club held another hunters safety class the week of April 25th. We had 27 students attend all the classes and pass the final exam. They were all awarded their Hunters Safety card and a patch.
The club would like to thank all you members who helped to make the course a success by teaching some of the classes. A special thanks to Bill Womack, our lead instructor and organizer of the course.
Thanks again members for your time and help in putting on these classes. Our next hunter’s safety class will be in September 2011.
OREGON HUNTERS
If you are planning any 2011 big game hunts in the controlled hunt areas, the deadline to apply is this month. May 15th is the deadline to apply for any antelope, deer, elk, bighorn sheep, or Rocky Mountain goat controlled hunts. Results will be available on June 20, 2011.
Also Oregon hunters remember that beginning August 1, 2011, hunters ages 17 and under must wear a fluorescent orange exterior garment or hat when hunting game animals or upland birds, except turkey, with any firearm.
With hunting season fast approaching our rifle range gets a lot of use this time of year. We got it fixed up pretty nice during our work party so let’s try to keep it that way. Clean up your used targets and garbage and police your brass when you are done. Also sign in and out in the shooter’s log when you use the range.
Our range is open to members and their guest seven days a week from 9:00 a.m. until dusks except during our scheduled trap shoots. As always make sure your guest obey all range rules and handle their firearms safely.
Remember as of January 1st this year our rifle & pistol ranges are open from 9:00 am until dusk seven days a week, but they are closed during our scheduled trap shoots.
The club’s rifle and pistol range is open to members and their guests only. If you bring a guest up to use the range, be sure they obey all range rules and use the range safely. We have sandbags, targets, and ear and eye protection at the range for your use. Please clean up your garbage when you are done. Also sign and date the shooter’s log when you shoot and please lock the range gate when you leave.
Please remember to be safe when shooting, and clean up after yourself.
